Biography

Elisheva Edelson was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and has been a Jewish Educator and performer of Jewish Folk and Popular Jewish Music since a very young age.

Elisheva has a BA in Education from the once Yiddish-Hebrew Teachers Seminar in Mexico City, now “Universidad Hebraica”, and she is an alumni of the Melton Program “Mehanchim Bechirim” at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Her teaching excellence has earned her the Advanced Pedagogic Award from the San Diego Agency for Jewish Education, the prestigious Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for excellence in Education.

Because of her artistic sensibility and her unique interpretations of traditional and modern standards, she has been invited to participate in several cultural events organized by the Israeli Embassy in Mexico and the “Instituto Cultural Mexico-Israel” throughout the country.

Elisheva has performed in several of the Annual Jewish Music Festivals “TUVIE MAIZEL” conducted by Maestro Laszlo Rooth, in the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Among other presentations she performed in a concert of Sephardic music at the National Museum of History in Chapultepec Castle, at the National University in Mexico and celebrating “Jerusalem 3000”.

She was invited to Turkey to be part of the events of “Sefarad 92”, and she represented the Jewish Community of Mexico in the Yiddish Theater Festival in Bucharest, Rumania, celebrating Abraham Goldfaden,  and the 115th  Anniversary of Yiddish Theater.

For over 20 years she taught Jewish Music at the “Yiddishe Shule in Mexico City” now CIM-ORT and conducted the children’s choir and since 2002, she lives close to her family in San Diego, CA,  where she teaches at Congregation Betham and she conducts the Ohr Shalom Choir
